VDL Art stands for Jan van de Loo and Daniëlle Verschuren. With completely different backgrounds, they found each other in their passion for painting. Jan with a 'painterly' dose of very varied life experience, Daniëlle with a later emerging drive to further develop her proven talent. This combination led to a collaboration with which they appeal to a completely unique target group of art lovers.

Jan van de Loo

Born in Maastricht to Brabant parents, Jan van de Loo ended up in Eindhoven at the age of 14 and moved to 's-Hertogenbosch 3 years later. Working as a nurse, a short period at the Art Academy Den Bosch and then doing his military service for his number formed the first phase of his adolescence. After he left school, he attended one day of the Social Academy (!), but entrepreneurship seemed to be a better choice. Jan van de Loo became a successful pioneer in antique pine furniture. In the meantime, he always continued to paint, out of passion and hobby. Business-wise, things went well for him, with the highlight in the 1990s being the successful furniture store in the Piazza where trends were set with its own furniture line and furniture workshop with 15 employees. These pieces of furniture were sold in renowned Dutch and Belgian furniture stores, such as Roche Bobois. The fact that the furniture industry stagnated at the beginning of this century did not affect Jan van de Loo's positive attitude to life. On the contrary: the artist in him blossomed and he earned a living with painting in his gallery on the Stratumsedijk at the beginning of this century. Life became adventurous when Jan decided to leave for France in 2006, to start a Bed & Breakfast in Nico Vrielink's castle together with a friend. Jan's adventures were broadcast in the television program "Ik vertrek" of the AVRO/Tros. Jan would stay in France for 4 years. Back in Eindhoven, he was associated with the Albert van Abbehuis for 2 years. There he organized exhibitions with works by renowned artists such as Andreas Schelfhout, Jan Sluijters, Isaac Israëls, Cees leMair and Marcel Bastiaans. During that period he also took the initiative for several trips to China with 14 artists, preceded by a reception at the Chinese ambassador in The Hague. After this phase, armed with the hospitality and life experience he had gained, he started working as a bartender in the Oude Rechtbank and art café Malle Abbe, where he exhibited and sold art. He is now active full-time in the art industry.

Daniëlle Verschuren

Daniëlle Verschuren, born and raised in Eindhoven in a very artistic family, started her education at the Academy in Arendonk, which she completed with an honorable mention. Her proven talent was once again put to good use during her follow-up education in 'monumental art' at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Later she worked for 15 years for the Brabant artist Clemens Briels, a brother of her mother. Her enormous experience with paint and brush is the basis for the technique that Daniëlle now uses for her own works that are set up in collaboration with Jan van de Loo. Jan's ideas gain extra dimensions in their still early collaboration. This has already led to special results in which Daniëlle in turn developed new insights and techniques in their jointly set up canvases. "Painting together is a completely different process than working solo. I have discovered that my possibilities and especially the pleasure in painting have become much greater through the collaboration with Jan".
